Description
The First Tee of Greater Knoxville was created in 2004 to provide young people with the opportunity to learn nine life-enhancing "core values” such as honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship. Our goal is to help at-risk youth make a successful transition into adulthood by teaching them to set and achieve realistic goals, deal with conflict and challenges, and develop critical life skills. Our program is based at the Williams Creek Golf Course in East Knoxville. In 2011, based upon our record of success in the Knoxville community, we were asked by The First Tee National Office to geographically expand our efforts by becoming The First Tee of Greater Knoxville to promote the First Tee curriculum into the counties surrounding Knoxville. Over a 5 year period, this expansion will enable us to reach over 15,000 young people in 25 youth-serving organizations at 10 different facilities in 50 elementary and middle schools. In 2012, wewill expand our program to 4 new facilities in Knox County and 1 in Sevier County. One of our first goals will be to move our existing After School Program into The First Tee Learning Center, a facility that will allow us to expand the curriculum and scope of the current program to better meet the needs of the community's inner city youth 5 days per week on a year-
round basis.
